Itinerary

You’ll start your adventure in Arusha, which is just at the base of Tanzania’s second-tallest peak, Mt. Meru. From there, you’ll enjoy a two-hour ride through the Tanzanian countryside as you make your way to Tarangire National Park. As you enter, you’ll be greeted with baobab trees—said to be the biggest and longest living trees of Africa—wherever you go. Colossal termite mounds also dot the savannahs and are easy to spot amidst its golden vegetation. Around midday, you’ll enjoy lunch before embarking on another fantastic game drive filled with wildlife.

You will find plenty of elephants throughout your game drive as Tarangire is home to over 3000 of them. But you will also get to see other animals such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, warthogs, elands, greater kudus, monkeys, baboons, mongooses along with many different species of birds. The Tarangire river that flows through the park is a great spot to catch animals drinking water or taking a bath.

At the end of the game drive, you will be taken to Karatu where you will spend your night in luxury at either Eileen’s Tree Lodge or in the cottages of the Marera Valley Lodge.

With packed lunches in hand, you’ll begin your next day at 6am to take a drive to your next destination: the Ngorongoro Crater, home to the elusive black rhinos. The early morning game drive will allow you to not only take in the scenic beauty as the golden rays of sun breach the horizon, but also get a closer look at wildlife that comes out to enjoy the cooler weather—it’s also peak time to see predators as they hunt for their prey.

Throughout your game drive, you’ll quickly understand why the Ngorongoro Crater is often easily mistaken for a small zoo. Thanks to the large concentration of wildlife that lives in this area, a look in nearly any direction is sure to be brimming with wildlife, including lions, cheetahs, hyenas, jackals, hippos, buffaloes, gazelles, elephants, waterbucks, baboons, monkeys, and many different species of birds. However, the park’s main attraction will always be the ever-elusive black rhinos, which are rarely seen in almost any other parks.

Your morning game drive will be wrapped up at a scenic picnic site where you will enjoy your lunch before embarking on another game drive through the park for the rest of the afternoon. Towards evening, you’ll take another 3-hour drive with the Tanzanian landscape as your backdrop as you head back to Arusha, where your safari adventure will come to a close.
